RBL Bank has received a show cause notice from the Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax authorities proposing a GST demand of ₹173.09 crore, comprising tax, interest and penalty, in relation to FY 2022-23.
The notice, issued on September 29, 2026, was served by the Assistant Commissioner of State Tax, Mumbai, under Section 73 of the Maharashtra GST Act, 2017. The matter concerns input tax credit claimed by the bank through a separate GST registration associated with its digital banking operations.
RBL Bank stated that it will file its response within the prescribed timeline. The bank also referred to favourable GST authority orders received in relation to the same issue for FY 2018-19 and FY 2019-20.
Based on the earlier orders and its assessment of the present matter, the bank said it has grounds to contest the proposed demand on merits. RBL Bank further stated that it does not presently anticipate any material adverse effect on its financial position, operations or profitability from the matter.
