Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman is on an official visit to Qatar from September 27 to 29, 2026, leading a delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Finance.
During the visit, the Finance Minister will participate in the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Doha. The 2026 AIIB Annual Meeting is being held on September 28–29 under the theme “Tomorrow’s Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation.”
Sitharaman will participate in the meeting in her capacity as India’s Governor to the AIIB. India is the second-largest shareholder of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, giving the country an important role in the multilateral development institution.
Apart from the AIIB meeting, the Finance Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with the AIIB President as well as her counterparts from Jordan, Switzerland, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Nepal. These engagements are expected to cover issues relating to economic cooperation, investment and development finance.
As part of the official Qatar visit, Sitharaman is also expected to call on the leadership of the Government of Qatar and interact with Qatari business leaders and investors, providing an opportunity to strengthen economic and investment relations between India and Qatar.
The AIIB Annual Meeting brings together representatives of member countries, policymakers, financial institutions, business leaders and other stakeholders to discuss the Bank’s strategic direction and infrastructure financing priorities. This year’s discussions are focused on areas including sustainable infrastructure, green financing, private capital mobilisation, digital transformation and cross-border connectivity as the AIIB enters its second decade of operations.
