RBI Reports USD 72.85 Billion Forex Mobilisation Under Special USD-INR Swap Facility

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reported that foreign currency inflows mobilised through its special USD-INR swap facility reached USD 72.85 billion as of August 21, 2026. Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) [FCNR(B)] deposits constituted the largest component of the mobilisation.

According to the latest RBI data, authorised dealer banks reported USD 65.397 billion through FCNR(B) deposits. Overseas Foreign Currency Borrowings (OCBs) contributed USD 4.86 billion, while External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs) accounted for USD 2.591 billion.

The RBI introduced the special forex swap facility on June 8, 2026, covering foreign currency mobilisation through FCNR(B) deposits, ECBs and OCBs. The initiative is aimed at facilitating foreign currency inflows and supporting the availability of foreign exchange within the domestic financial system.

The FCNR(B) mobilisation window is scheduled to remain open until August 31, 2026. The facilities relating to ECBs and OCBs will continue to be available until December 31, 2026.

FCNR(B) deposits account for nearly 90% of the total USD 72.85 billion mobilised under the framework so far. Combined inflows through OCBs and ECBs stood at approximately USD 7.45 billion.

The latest figures indicate substantial participation by authorised dealer banks and overseas depositors ahead of the August 31 deadline for the FCNR(B) component of the RBI's special forex facility. CASansaar
