India’s Forex Reserves Decline by $12.95 Billion to $734.61 Billion: RBI Data

India’s foreign exchange reserves fell by USD 12.95 billion to USD 734.61 billion in the week ended October 2, 2026, according to RBI data. The decline was driven mainly by a drop in foreign currency assets and gold reserves, despite a marginal rise in SDRs.

India’s foreign exchange reserves decreased by USD 12.95 billion to USD 734.61 billion in the week ended October 2, 2026, according to the latest Weekly Statistical Supplement released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Foreign currency assets, which constitute the largest share of the country’s forex reserves, declined by USD 10.664 billion to USD 604.747 billion. Gold reserves also fell by USD 2.288 billion to USD 106.413 billion during the reporting week, contributing to the overall reduction.

Meanwhile, Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) increased by USD 15 million to USD 18.656 billion, while India’s reserve position with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) decreased by USD 15 million to USD 4.789 billion.

Despite the weekly decline, India’s total foreign exchange reserves remained USD 43.498 billion above their level at the end of March 2026. On a year-on-year basis, reserves recorded an increase of USD 34.645 billion.

Foreign exchange reserves play an important role in strengthening India’s external financial stability, supporting international payment obligations and enabling the RBI to manage volatility in the foreign exchange market. CASansaar
