FM Meets Singapore Leaders to Discuss Investment and Economic Cooperation

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to discuss India–Singapore economic cooperation, investment opportunities and global economic challenges, including the ongoing energy crisis.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held discussions with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during her visit to Singapore, focusing on bilateral economic relations, investment opportunities and the impact of global economic developments.

According to the Ministry of Finance, Sitharaman met President Tharman at The Istana, Singapore, to exchange views on strengthening cooperation under the India–Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The discussions highlighted the importance of further expanding collaboration between the two countries.

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong also welcomed the Indian Finance Minister and discussed the evolving global economic situation, including challenges arising from the ongoing energy crisis. He noted that the meeting covered recent developments in India and emerging opportunities for investment and bilateral cooperation.

Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan highlighted the potential for Singapore-based companies to participate in India's long-term economic growth. His remarks reflected the scope for businesses in Singapore to explore investment and commercial opportunities in the Indian market.

India and Singapore maintain a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership aimed at strengthening cooperation across areas of mutual interest. The latest meetings underscore the continued engagement between the two countries on economic issues, investment prospects and responses to changing global conditions.
