The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Central Excise Commissionerate, Bhopal, in an alleged bribery case on October 10, 2026. According to the CBI press release dated October 11, 2026, the accused, posted in the Preventive Branch (Headquarters), allegedly demanded a monthly bribe of ₹2 lakh from a proprietor of a Bhopal-based firm dealing in scrap material.
The CBI alleged that the accused sought the amount in exchange for not intercepting vehicles transporting scrap material and for not obstructing the firm's business operations. Following the registration of the case on October 10, 2026, the CBI laid a trap and caught the CGST Superintendent red-handed while allegedly accepting ₹2 lakh.
Searches were subsequently conducted at the accused's residential premises in Bhopal and Kanpur. During the searches, the agency reportedly recovered ₹72.50 lakh in cash along with documents relating to immovable property. The CBI stated that the investigation is ongoing. CASansaar
