GSTN Revises E-Way Bill Numbering Format from January 1, 2027

GSTN will revise E-Way Bill numbering formats from January 1, 2027. E-Way Bill numbers will increase from 12 to 14 digits, while Consolidated E-Way Bill numbers will change from 10 to 11 digits. Taxpayers and software providers must update their systems accordingly.

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has announced changes to the numbering formats of E-Way Bills and Consolidated E-Way Bills, effective from January 1, 2027. The revision aims to increase numbering capacity to accommodate the growing volume of E-Way Bills generated on the GST portal.

Under the proposed changes, the E-Way Bill number will increase from 12 digits to 14 digits, while the Consolidated E-Way Bill number will be revised from 10 digits to 11 digits.

The changes will be made available in the Sandbox environment for testing, with further technical details to be published on the E-Way Bill Portal. Stakeholders should complete the required system modifications before January 1, 2027, to ensure uninterrupted E-Way Bill operations.
