EPFO Launches WhatsApp Service to Check PF Balance & Download Passbook

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a WhatsApp-based service allowing subscribers to access important Provident Fund (PF) details through a verified WhatsApp number. The initiative was announced by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on the occasion of EPFO’s 74th Foundation Day.

Through this facility, EPF members can check their PF balance, view their latest five transactions and access or download their EPF passbook. The service also provides personalised assistance and guidance for completing requirements related to PMVBRY. Subscribers can choose their preferred language and initiate the service by sending “Hi” to 8796441800 through WhatsApp.

The Minister also announced the automatic settlement facility for eligible inoperative EPF accounts having balances of up to ₹1,000. Members with Aadhaar-verified accounts will not need to submit individual claims. EPFO will process eligible settlements after completing the prescribed identity and bank account verification.

According to the announcement, approximately one lakh inoperative accounts involving nearly ₹5 crore are expected to benefit from this facility.

The initiative aims to simplify access to EPF services, reduce paperwork and minimise the need for members to visit EPFO offices. The Minister also highlighted that the average EPF claim settlement time had declined to 2.57 days in October 2026.
