The Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested GST Inspector Shruti Rani in Gurugram for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹7,000 in exchange for issuing a GST registration number to a local businessman.
The arrest took place on 23 October 2026, following a complaint filed by a businessman who had applied for GST registration for his firm. According to ACB officials, the inspector allegedly withheld the application file despite completion of the required formalities and demanded ₹7,000 for approving the verification report and issuing the GST registration certificate.
Acting on the complaint, the Gurugram ACB conducted a preliminary inquiry and organised a trap operation. The complainant was provided with chemically treated currency notes, which were allegedly handed over to the inspector at her office in Sector 32, Gurugram. The ACB team subsequently apprehended her while allegedly accepting the money.
