Jaipur police have arrested three individuals in connection with an alleged kidnapping attempt targeting a chartered accountant, reportedly motivated by financial difficulties and outstanding personal loans. Authorities have identified the arrested suspects as Chetan Sharma alias Lala, Zainul Khan and Hanuman Prajapat. A fourth individual, allegedly involved in the conspiracy, remains absconding.
Police recovered two motorcycles, an electric scooter, a counterfeit pistol and a knife from the accused. Investigators stated that the group had initially planned to target a financially affluent individual arriving at Central Park in a luxury vehicle.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajarshi Raj Varma, the alleged mastermind, 24-year-old Chetan Sharma, had accumulated debts exceeding ₹12 lakh. He had reportedly been unemployed for approximately one month after previously working as a delivery executive for an e-commerce company. Police also stated that Hanuman Prajapat was facing outstanding debt of around ₹1 lakh.
The accused allegedly intended to demand ₹20 lakh in ransom to repay their financial liabilities.
The alleged kidnapping attempt took place on September 10, when Rajiv Gupta arrived at Central Park for his morning walk. Police stated that the suspects forcibly placed him inside his Mercedes and drove away from Jaipur.
During the incident, Gupta allegedly resisted and attempted to escape from the moving vehicle. The struggle reportedly caused the car to lose control and crash into a roadside ditch. When nearby residents approached the vehicle, the suspects allegedly abandoned the car and escaped towards a forested and hilly area.
Police further disclosed that Chetan Sharma had previously been named as an accused in another kidnapping case registered at Kho Nagorian police station, involving the alleged abduction of a relative.
Investigations remain underway to locate the absconding suspect and establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged conspiracy. CASansaar
