Centre Prohibits Charges on RuPay Debit Card and UPI Transactions Up to ₹2,000

The Central Government has issued a notification under Section 10A of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, prohibiting banks and system providers from directly or indirectly imposing charges on persons making or receiving payments through RuPay-powered debit cards and UPI transactions, where the transaction amount does not exceed ₹2,000. The measure aims to ensure that eligible low-value digital payments remain free from such charges for both the payer and recipient, supporting wider adoption and use of electronic payment systems.
