RBI Imposes Monetary Penalties on 3 Credit Information Companies & Two NBFCs

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed monetary penalties on five regulated entities, comprising three Credit Information Companies (CICs) and two Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), for non-compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Among the penalised credit information companies, TransUnion CIBIL Limited has received the highest penalty of ₹26.82 lakh. The penalty was imposed through an RBI order dated August 31, 2026.

According to the RBI, the action against TransUnion CIBIL relates to deficiencies in complying with the regulatory framework governing compensation for delays in updating or rectifying credit information. The company was found to have not credited the prescribed compensation to the bank accounts of certain eligible complainants within the stipulated timeframe.

The monetary penalty is regulatory in nature and reflects the RBI's supervisory action for identified compliance deficiencies. CASansaar
