India’s Forex Reserves Reach Record USD 740.8 Billion as of August 28, 2026

India’s foreign exchange reserves climbed by USD 11.475 billion in the week ended August 28, 2026, reaching a new record of USD 740.803 billion, according to the latest weekly data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The increase was primarily supported by higher foreign currency assets (FCAs), which rose by USD 9.337 billion to USD 600.670 billion during the week. FCAs remain the largest component of India’s forex reserves.

The value of the RBI’s gold reserves also increased significantly, rising by USD 2.191 billion to USD 116.409 billion.

Other reserve components recorded marginal declines. Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) fell by USD 43 million to USD 18.810 billion, while India’s reserve position with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) declined by USD 11 million to USD 4.914 billion.

Since the end of March 2026, India’s total foreign exchange reserves have increased by USD 49.696 billion, while foreign currency assets have expanded by USD 48.387 billion.

On a year-on-year basis, total forex reserves were USD 46.574 billion higher. Foreign currency assets increased by USD 16.733 billion, while the value of gold reserves rose by USD 29.641 billion.

The record reserve level strengthens India’s external financial buffer and provides greater resilience against global financial volatility, currency-market pressures and external economic risks. CASansaar
