The Income Tax Department has expressed gratitude to taxpayers after more than 5.9 crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs) were successfully filed for Assessment Year (AY) 2026–27 by July 31, 2026, the due date for most individual taxpayers.
In a message shared on its official social media platform, the department thanked taxpayers for their timely compliance, stating that their trust and prompt tax filing contribute significantly to India's economic growth. The department highlighted that voluntary tax compliance strengthens the nation's financial framework and supports its development objectives.
The post was also tagged to senior government authorities, including the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Finance, and the Press Information Bureau (PIB), acknowledging the collective efforts behind the country's tax administration and compliance initiatives. CA Sansaar
